I live in the high desert, in north-western Arizona. I was drinking my coffee, out in the front yard, where I have a few bird feeders. I was watching a hummingbird that was sitting in my pine tree. When, all of a sudden, a small red-brown streak passed through the yard and departed with a sparrow in its talons. It was in, grabbed lunch and gone in a couple of seconds. So fast, that I didn't even get a good look at it.
The next day, when I went out to have my coffee, I saw the hunter, sitting on a power line pole about 50 yards away. Luckily, I had the La Ea2 and an Amount Quantary 70-300 lens on my A6000. The Quantary isn't a great lens, but at least it's got some reach. I grabbed the camera and as I pointed towards the bird, I guess he took that as his cue to depart and jumped off of the pole and flew. With the combination of my having to react quickly and my less than great panning BIF technique, I didn't get a great shot. But I did get a shot, and was able to identify him as an American Kestrel.

That was a few days ago, and I haven't seen him since. But, I keep looking for him and a chance to get a better shot. This is the shot I did get and it's a heavy crop too.
